Benjamin Aivaz

April 17, 1923 - January 23, 2018

Benjamin Aivaz, 94, of New Britain, husband of the late Rose (Calistro) Aivaz, passed away Tuesday (January 23, 2018) at Apple Rehab in Plainville. Born in Persia, son of the late Joseph I. and Veronica (Shamlian) Aivaz, he lived in New Britain most of his life. Ben was a graduate of New Britain High School, class of 1941, and was a World War II US Navy Veteran. He was employed in the Shipping Department of the Hardware Division at Stanley Works for over 40 years, retiring in 1985. Ben enjoyed fishing, medal detecting and his Pinochle friends at the New Britain Senior Center. Surviving are two sons, Kenneth Aivaz of New Britain and Cliff Aivaz of Plainville; a daughter, Marion Boucher and her husband Jean-Pierre of Tolland; three sisters, Ruth Frisk of New Britain; Josephine Sabino of Coventry and Veronica Sypek of Wallingford; a granddaughter, Jan Sweeney and her husband Peter of West Hartford; three great grandchildren; Amanda, Peter “PJ” and Emma; several nieces and nephews. He also leaves a special friend, who was like a third son to him, David Rustico of Plantsville. Besides his parents, Ben was predeceased by two sisters, Lucy Benjamin and Anna David as well as four brothers, Michael, Jonathan, Robert and Joseph Aivaz. Funeral services are Friday 6 PM at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain. Calling hours are Friday from 4 to 6 PM at the funeral home.
