Jeannette (Audet) Barger

September 14, 1934 - November 21, 2017

Jeannette (Audet) Barger, 85, of New Britain passed on to her eternal rest on November, 21, 2017 with her loving family at her side. Jeannette was born in Waterville, Maine to Edgar and Simone Audet. She was the loving wife of Lowell H Barger Sr. for 54 years, who died in 2006, and was also predeceased by a son, Lowell Barger Jr. in 2007. Jeannette was a very outgoing woman whose faith in God was first priority. She always working in God’s name. For years she worked at St Joseph’s church in New Britain at the rectory and convent. She taught religious education at St John the Evangelist Church in New Britain for 35 years and was also the programs director. Jeannette was a eucharistic minister and also office manager for many years. She received many awards for her dedication to her church. St John the Evangelist was her second home and she had her hands in a lot of goings-on from pasta dinners, breakfast after mass on Palm Sunday, card parties, Women’s Guild, bingo, food drives and other events which together with her other parishioners raised money for the other charitable programs. She loved every minute of her service in God’s name. Jeannette had a great friend in Father Ronald Smith, she admired and loved him for all the hard work and guidance he gave to so many in God’s service. She often spoke of him being her spiritual guidance and dear friend. Jeannette was always there to lend a helping hand or just give the greatest hugs. At Apple Rehab in Cromwell, where she resided for the past 14 months, Jeannette was a goodwill ambassador. All of the nurses, aides, staff and residences just loved her and she loved them. There was never a time when she wasn't teaching the rosary, giving hugs, or singing songs. She had a very special friend in her roomate Shirley Miller, who she called little sister. Jeannette was just as loving in her home life which shows in the love returned to her by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Besides her husband, son, and parents, Jeannette was predeceased by her, three brothers Ludger Audet, Rev. Joseph Audet MSF and Rev. Arthur Audet; two sisters, Lorraine Hammerschmidt and Mary Audet; four brothers-in-law Emile Libby, George Barger, Lloyd Barger and Ben Iyall; two sisters-in-law Teresa Barger and Lois Iyall. Jeannette is survived by her daughter, Debra Nadeau and her husband Norman;her son, Robert Barger and his wife Wendy; her daughter Margaret Ziegenhagen and her husband Michael. She also leaves her sister Carmen Libby, brother-in-law Louis Hammerschmidt and her sister-in-law Wynell; her widowed daughter-in-law Susan Barger and her husband Dave Roberts. Jeannette was blessed with her 12 grandchildren and their spouses. Michelle Nadeau and Edward Berger, Norman Nadeau and Shelby, Christopher Nadeau and Tricia. Michael Ziegenhagen Jr and Hillary, Brian Ziegenhagen and Kelly Bristol, Katie Adams and Alex Lowell Barger III and his fiance Kerry Dadabbo, Alicia Barger, Hannah Barger and Leland Barger, and Robert and Eric Washenko. Jeannette was double blessed with 14 great grandchildren Ryan Dionne and fiancee Courtney Christine, Nicole Dionne and partner Daniel Parks, Collin Nadeau, Wyatt Nadeau, Julia Farrand, Jillian Farrand, Cole Nadeau, Peyton Nadeau, Trey Dadabbo-Barger, Noah Lee Barger, Samuel Bristol, Dean Bristol, Wyatt Ziegenhagen and baby Lucy Adams. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews in the Barger, Libby, Hammerschmidt and Iyall families and many friends but especially Shirley Miller and Gladys Martin. Jeannette lived a full life of God, family and friends. We pray she will enjoy her reunion with all who she loved who predeceased her who she has missed for a long time. May they all be there to welcome her when she enters her heavenly home. A special note to thank the loving staff at Apple Rehab Cromwell too many to mention, but we want to acknowledge Tina (aka madamoselle) who took extra special care of our whole family. You are a blessing we will never forget. The Apple Rehab family are all so loving and caring while still being professional. Also Season’s Hospice, Mildred her coordinator, Emily, Chaplain Karen Taryn, Sandra and Jayme DeAmato her case manager and nurse in her final days. She loved them all as much as they did her. The family is ever grateful for your loving care.
