Nancy Jane Ross

April 7, 1935 - October 12, 2018

Nancy J. Ross, 83, of New Britain, passed away Friday (October 12, 2018) at Monsignor Bojnowski Manor in New Britain. Born in Pittsfield, Mass, Nancy is a former New York City resident moving to New Britain in 1964, and came to become the Director of Christian Education at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. A graduate of Pittsfield High School, Class of 1952, Nancy graduated from North Adams State University and received a Masters in Religious Education from Union Seminary in New York City. She was a 1st grade teacher at the Dominic Burns Elementary School and taught in the Hartford School System for 33 years, retiring in 1995. Nancy was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in New Britain; was a former member and Clerk of Vestry, Pastoral Care Community, member of the church choir, and taught Sunday School. She was also a member of the New Britain Symphony and former Board Member. Surviving is her caregiver Leonard Nelson of New Britain; her best friend, Allena McAdoo of Newington; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents Harry and Mildred (Carter) Ross, she was predeceased by a brother, William C. Ross and two sisters, Joan Rook and Phyllis Culver-Birom. A memorial service will be held Wednesday 10 AM at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 147 West Main Street, New Britain. Calling hours are Wednesday morning 9 to 10 AM in the Chapel of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church Food Bank or to the New Britain Symphony, PO Box 1253, New Britain, CT 06050-1253 or to the New Britain Salvation Army, 78 Franklin Square, New Britain, CT 06051.
