Ruth (Selander) Dinda
May 21, 1929 - January 6, 2021
Ruth Selander Dinda of Plainville passed away January 6, 2021. She was born on May 21, 1929 in New Britain to William and Leah (Rizzi) Selander. A native and longtime New Britain resident, she moved to Plainville in 2008. She graduated from New Britain High School in 1946. She was very proud of the fact that she skipped a grade in elementary school. After graduating, she was employed at Stanley Works where she met her loving husband and best friend, Thomas Gerald Dinda. They were married for 51 years. After having children, she was employed by Southern New England Telephone Company. She retired in 1991 from SNET after working more than 27 years. Ruth was a great cook and baker. Family will fondly remember the Wednesday night dinners each week on East St and Gary Dr. Ruth was happiest when she was surrounded by Family. It didn't have to be a special occasion to get together. We would spend many days around the pool which was a frequent and favorite spot, full of so many happy memories. Ruth and Tom spent many weekends and holidays camping with family and friends. Family vacations were a priority and became generational as her family expanded. Her family was her pride and joy. She would never miss the opportunity to attend one of her grandchildren's sporting events. Holidays and the time leading up to them were a very important to Ruth which has laid the the foundation for Christmas' for generations to come. Ruth's hobbies also included crocheting and knitting. She was an avid reader and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. She enjoyed reminiscing about New Britain years ago, especially the Oak St area where she grew up. She liked watching Classic movies and listening to music. Ruth enjoyed attending monthly luncheons with the many friends that she had made at SNET up until a short time ago. Ruth will be missed but not forgotten by all who knew her. She was caring, generous, and selfless. She was the most loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother, completely devoting herself to caring and giving to her family. We find peace and solace in knowing that she is once again reunited with her loving husband Tom. She and Thomas raised 4 children, 2 daughters and 2 sons: Karen (William) Clark of New Britain, Robin (Dennis) Ryley of Cheshire, Thomas (Eileen) Dinda of Lebanon, and Gary (Joann) Dinda of Plainville. She had 9 grandchildren: Keith, Christopher, and Betsy Clark, Guthrie and Cody Dinda, Matthew and Thomas Dinda, Sarah Ralston, and Dennis Ryley. She had 9 great-grandchildren: Kallie, Ashleigh, and JT Clark, Linus and Luke Clark, Seamus, Emmett, and Claire Dinda and Dakota Ralston. She was predeceased by her 2 brothers: Robert and William (Bucky) Selander. Ruth also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Due to COVID-19, services will be private. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Live Well, 1261 South Main St, Plantsville, CT. 06479. Carlson Funeral Home, New Britain is assisting with arrangements. We hope to have a gathering sometime in the future when we can celebrate Ruth, her life and the many memories we will forever hold dear to us.
