Shirley Ruth Baehr
September 20, 1920 - November 29, 2017
Shirley Ruth Baehr, 97, of Covenant Village of Cromwell, passed away November 29th at Pilgrim Manor. Born in New Britain, Shirley lived in Kensington for 28 years, moving to Cromwell in 1990. A graduate of New Britain High School, Class of 1937, she was employed as a Finance and Pension Advisor at GE in Plainville (originally Trumbull Electric (Tempco) for 44 years, retiring in 1982. Shirley was a member of South Church in New Britain; was former President of GE Credit Union; former member of the New Britain Salvation Army Advisory Board; former President of the Berlin AARP; and was former South Church Treasurer. Shirley was an avid traveler and the world’s biggest fan of the UConn Huskies Women’s Basketball Team. A role model to the rest of her family, she was a kind and generous lady who will be dearly missed. Surviving are two nieces Bette-Jane “Mikey” Havlick of Martinez, Georgia and Nancy Jenks of Cupertino, CA; and a nephew, Robert “Jay” Smith III of Pawcatuck; two great nieces, two great nephews and ten great grand nieces and nephews. Shirley was predeceased by her brother, 1st Lt. Richard Baehr, Killed In Action in World War II. Funeral services are Monday (December 4) 1 PM at South Church, 90 Main Street, New Britain, CT 06051. There are no calling hours. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. The Carlson Funeral Home, New Britain is assisting with arrangements.
