Christa Schneider Eckert

Christa Schneider Eckert, 80, of Berlin, passed away Wednesday August 28, 2013 at the Hospital of Central CT. Born in Frankfurt am Main, Germany to Henrich and Augusta Morgen Schneider. Christa was a loyal employee of 45 years at Mary's Pastry Shop in Berlin. Many of the customers became lifelong friends. She was a very active member and former officer of Schutzen Park Sick Benefit Society and the Hartford Liederkranz in Newington. Christa loved Christmas and always made it a very special time for her family & friends. She loved to decorate, and her home was like a winter wonderland. She made the best spritz cookies & loved to give them to her family and friends. She was so happy to teach her daughter-in-law, granddaughters & great granddaughter how to make those cookies with her old-fashioned German cookie press. She was also an excellent cook and took great pride in making many special family meals at her home. Her family meant the world to her. She attended St. Matthew Lutheran Church in New Britain. Christa is survived by her son Peter E. Montana and his wife Karen of Southington, grandchildren Kim Grace and her husband Chuck of Southington, Peter D. Montana and his wife Laura, their children Hayley and Peter J. Montana of Plainville, a sister Annelise Reese of New Jersey, and her long-time sweetheart of over 30 years, Reinhard Radka. She also leaves 2 stepchildren, Steven & Linda Eckert. She also leaves a very special friend, Andrew Sluback who was always ready to lend a helping hand, as well as many extended family and friends. Christa & Reiny loved their trips together, especially their annual trips to Reidelbauers Resort in upstate New York. They made many friends there and always had wonderful time. She was predeceased by her sisters Ilsa and Edith, and her husband Albert Eckert. Funeral Services are Wednesday Sept 4th 10 AM at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, 99 Franklin Square, New Britain. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park. Calling hours are Tuesday 5 to 8 PM at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Christa Eckert Memorial Education Fund which has been established for her great grandchildren.
