Earl Henry Wicklund

Earl Henry Wicklund, 90, of Kensington, died peacefully on July 22, 2026. Earl was born on July 3, 1936 to Helen (Zering) and Henry Wicklund. Earl is survived by his children, Sharon Hinchliffe and her husband Stephen; Sandra Roche and her husband Thomas; John Wicklund and his wife Liz; and Daughter-in-law, Lorraine Wicklund. Grandchildren Carla and her husband Jim, Leah and her husband Matt, Adam, Holly and her husband Chad, Eric and his wife Jackie, Kyle and his wife Veronica, Veronica and her husband Jonathan, Sean and his wife Savanna, Molly and her husband Nick, Bo, and Hunter. Great Grandchildren Joshua, Andrea, MaKenna, Colton, Owen, Landon, Tessa, Ryan, Avery, Mason, Aubrey, Ryan, Luke, Walker, and Fordham, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Jean DeMers, their son, David, his parents, and his faithful companion, Dharla. Earl was a son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. Earl recently celebrated his 90th birthday with a family party. He attended E. C. Goodwin Technical High School and began his career as a carpenter. Earl owned Earl H. Wicklund Builders. He could be found driving his truck down Farmington Avenue, checking on the job, sitting on the boat in Old Saybrook, or cruising to Block Island on the SS Da Jon. Earl held a captain’s license and was an esteemed Commodore of the United States Power Squadron with a full certificate. He was president of St. Matthew’s church. He was a lifetime member of the Berlin Lion’s Club where he was a recipient of the Melvin Jones award. He loved watching the Red Sox and the UConn women's basketball. Earl was a family man and he enjoyed spending time with his family and the love of his life, Jean. We will miss his red truck driving around town and his jokes. May he rest in eternal peace with the Lord. Thank you to the Jefferson House for the love and care. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Tuesday (July 28, 2026) at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, 99 Franklin Square, New Britain followed by burial in West Lane Cemetery, Kensington. Calling hours will be held Monday 4 to 7 PM at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain. A brief Lions Memorial service will be held 5:30 PM during the calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38101.
