James "Jim" Garvey

James Thomas Garvey II Jim, 58, of New Britain passed away Sunday August 22, 2004 battling Mesothelioma Lung Cancer with his loving family by his side. Born in Woodside, New York, son of the late Vincent M. and Dorothy Anderson Garvey, he was a New Britain resident most of his life. He attended Robinson School in West Hartford and graduated from New Britain High School, class of 1964, and attended Teachers College now CCSU in New Britain to pursue his passion of teaching English. Jimmy continued working for Con-Rail but got side tracked resulting in 33 years of service with Con-Rail & Amtrack-Shore Line East. He was a member of Elks Lodge # 957, New Britain. Jimmy will be remembered for his great personality, charm, wit and love he showed his family, friends, and co-workers, always there to lend a helping hand. His motto Believe in yourself you can climb mountains, we all can, Just Do It for his nephews Eric and Jeremy and neighbor Nickie. His strength and courage and love of life as he fought his illness and his only concern for others than himself shows what a special person he was. He was known for his love of music, cars, and the many projects at home. He is survived by a loving sister Dorothy Ann Gravelle and her husband Ron of Kensington; two nephews, Eric James Martin Hansen and his wife Amber, and Jeremy Ronald James Gravelle and Samantha Burnet. Special loving extended family, Frances Dumin, Patty Dumin, and Paul Dumin; Special cousins Reggie and Tom OBrien; Aunt Mrs. Leona Bollman, cousins, Judy and Ron Hypere, Mark and Pam Runge, Lee and William Bollman. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Jeannie Webb and Amy McGorver for the love and care, especially the call, coffee and donut visits. They would also like to thank Amtrack and Shore-Line East for the calls and visits especially Charles, Eddie, Eric, John, Joe, Kevin, Nick, Raymond, and Cindy. Funeral services will be held Wednesday August 25, 2004 9:15 AM at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial 10 AM at St. Pauls Church, Alling Street, Kensington. Calling hours will be held TODAY Tuesday 5 to 8 PM at Carlson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, New Britain. Garvey II, 485 Alling Street, Kensington, CT 06037 or to the Salvation Army, 78 Franklin Square, New Britain, CT 06051.
