Sharon (Roden) Bishop

Sharon (Roden) Bishop, 76 of Cromwell, widow of Richard “Dick” W. Bishop, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at her home. Born in New Britain, she was a graduate of New Britain High School, class of 1964, and attended Becker College in Worcester, MA. She was also a lifelong member of St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church in East Berlin where she served on the altar guild. Since 1973 Sharon worked alongside her husband Dick, building the family business, Bishop’s Automotive- Group in Cromwell. She was also a member of the Middlesex Chamber of Commerce. In her earlier years, Sharon was an avid bowler, loved to snowmobile with her beloved husband and was a well accomplished bridge player. She loved baking during the holidays with her famous Mac and Cheese, Apple Crumb Pie, and her famous fudge, making batches in her home with her lifelong friend Joann Chicker. She kept in contact with many of her High School friends, especially, Frank and Marsha Albert, and was involved with preparing class reunions. She also enjoyed going to dinner and visiting new restaurants with her cousins Charlene and Dave Distefano. She never passed up the opportunity to have a well-made espresso martini. Surviving Sharon is her two sons, William Bishop and his significant other Giulia Iozzo of Cromwell and Daniel Bishop of Cromwell; a sister, Karen Cianci of Venice, FL; a brother in-law, Robert Bishop and his wife Margaret of Kensington. She also leaves behind her 5 precious grandchildren, that meant the world to her; Bret, Miranda, Arianna, Karissa, and Nolan; and great-grandson, Colton; several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband she is predeceased by a brother in-law, John Cianci. She not only leaves behind her beloved family and friends, she leaves her three precious cats; Oscar, Carson, and Cara. Sharon also leaves behind many broken hearts as she touched so many. She was named “Momma B” by many and meant so much to her Bishop Citgo employees, who she saw every day. She never retired from her work and has left behind a legacy built by tireless work ethic and perfectionism, something her and Dick shared. All that knew Sharon would know that Dick and both their Westies, Mac and Murphy, were there to greet her as she made her way to the gates of heaven, riding through in their red mustang with the top down in true 60’s fashion, listening to Kansas City. She will be truly missed by all that knew her, as she was a special woman with a gold heart. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, August 22, 2023, 11:00AM at St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church, 68 Main Street, East Berlin, CT 06023. There are no calling hours. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Wilcox Cemetery, East Berlin. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 2969 Whitney Avenue, Hamdem, CT 06518 or St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church.
