Frances E. Jacobs

Frances E. Jacobs, of New Britain, widow of Karam Jacobs, passed away Monday October 18, 2011 at her home. Born in Chicago, Frances has been a New Britain resident since 1951. She was employed at New Britain National Bank for many years and eventually retired from there in 1992. Her love of travel also became a job when she joined a travel agency as outside sales. She traveled to 5 of the 7 continents. Frances had a love of music, and in the early days of television in Chicago, she was a featured singer for many programs including the Walgreen Open House. She was a longtime member of South Church in New Britain where she was a soloist and Senior Deaconess at the church. Frances was vice president of the Greater New Britain Opera Association, and President of the New Britain Musical Club. She also wrote for 18 years in the Assyrian Star as a columnist in a column called CT Chit Chat. Surviving is a daughter, Leslie Jacobs of New Britain; a brother, Martin Eshoo of Las Vegas; a sister, Mabel Sargis in Chicago; a cousin, Rose Sargis Ernesto of New Britain; very close friends, Betty and Joanne Dooman, both of New Britain; Sarah Benjamin of Chicago, and Rose Chicarella of Florida; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday 11 AM at South Church, 90 Main Street, New Britain, CT 06051. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday morning 9:30 to 10:30 AM at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain. Donations may be made to South Church Assyrian Memorial Parlor or the CT Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, 19 Chestnut Street, New Britain, CT 06051.
