Joan (Duffy) Bradley

August 23, 1932 - November 18, 2017

Joan (Duffy) Bradley, 85, of New Britain, widow of Donald P. Bradley, passed away peacefully Saturday (November 18, 2017) at Arbor Rose in New Britain. Born in New Britain, Joan moved to Nantucket as a child, returned to New Britain in 1946 and resided in Berlin since 1966. She is a graduate of New Britain High, Class of 1950 and received her Bachelors Degree in Physical Education from the University of Connecticut. She worked at Lincoln Elementary School and later retired from E.C. Goodwin Technical School as a Physical Education teacher. Joan was a member of St. Maurice Church in New Britain, Shuttle Meadow Country Club, and the New Britain Junior League. Joan was an active citizen in Berlin, contributing her time to activities such as the Noel Boutique and Berlin Boosters. She spent over a decade on the side lines of numerous sports fields watching her three sons competing in many different sporting activities – always their biggest fan. For those who knew Joan, they will remember her for love of anything UCONN, especially women’s basketball. She was an avid reader and a crossword puzzle expert. Joan loved being with her group of friends, whether it be golfing, bowling, playing bridge, or traveling. Joan’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family, especially her five grandchildren who she loved dearly. Many family gatherings included a spirited game of scat, LCR or a cribbage challenge; many of which Joan was the victor. Surviving are three sons, Barry Bradley and his wife Barbara of Westbrook; Gregory Bradley and his wife Susan of Plainville; and Scott Bradley and his wife Mary Carol of Wallingford; five grandchildren, Zachary, Luke, Samantha, Caroline and Shannon Bradley. Besides her husband Donald, she was predeceased by a brother, Richard Duffy. Calling hours will be held Friday (November 24, 2017) 8:30 to 10:30 AM at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial 11 AM at St. Maurice Church, 100 Wightman Road, New Britain. Burial will be in Maple Cemetery, Berlin. Donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 15829, Arlington, VA 22215.
