Joan Carol Simons

December 11, 1935 - April 24, 2016

Joan Carol Simons, 80, of New Britain, passed away Sunday April 24, 2016 at Hartford Hospital after a short illness. Born in New Britain on December 11, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Stanley Earl and Dorothy Irene Warner Simons. Joan graduated from Berlin High School in 1954 and was the class Salutatorian. She worked as a medical secretary at Hartford Hospital and the VNA. She was a member of South Church in New Britain and a former member of Central Baptist Church in Hartford. Surviving are 2 sisters, Eleanor Occhi and her husband Theodore of Canaan, NH; and Shirley Stingle and her husband Fred of Simsbury. She also leaves a niece, Laurie Deschenes and her husband Thomas of Kensington, as well as several aunts and cousins. Calling hours are Wednesday morning 10 to 11AM at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain followed by a procession to South Church, 90 Main Street, New Britain for a brief service and reception. Burial will be in Ellington Center Cemetery, Ellington. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation, 103 Vision Way, Bloomfield, CT 06002.
