Steven W. Burke

Steven W. Burke, aged 64, of South Windsor passed away on September 4, 2025, surrounded by family after a courageous battle with ALS. He was a proud graduate of Bulkeley High School, class of 1978, and the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy, class of 1983. Steven dedicated his professional life to advancing hospital pharmacy practice throughout Connecticut. Steven was a respected pharmacy director at many hospitals, most recently Bristol Hospital for 14 years. As a devoted alumnus of UConn, Steven was always in the stands rooting for his Huskies. He was a passionate photography enthusiast, he was always quick with a joke, and he always made sure everyone was having a good time. He was a gadget fan constantly researching and experimenting with new technology. Steven enjoyed traveling with his wife and together they attended 4 Olympics games all over the world. Steven loved spending time at his second home with the community at Attawan Beach in Niantic, CT. He is survived by his beloved wife Ann Marie (Furey) Burke; three children, Brian and his wife Julie, Christine, and Patrick; two treasured grandchildren, Kolby and Alora; four siblings, Peter, Susan, Karen, and Kathleen; and several nieces and nephews. Steven was also a close friend and support to many that he considered family. Steven was blessed to have so many people in his life that he loved so deeply. His hard-fought battle with ALS was a testament to his love for his family and his determination to live every moment to the fullest. This was made possible by the support and care of his devoted family and friends who stood by his side with unwavering love and strength. The family would also like to thank the caring people at Hospital for Special Care, ALS United, and Constellation Hospice for their support in Steven’s care. Service Information: Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 673 Ellington Road, South Windsor, at 10:00 am. Carlson Funeral Home of New Britain is assisting with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested donations to the ALS Association at www.ALS.org.
