Gerald Richard Wollman

Gerald Richard Wollman, 73, of New Britain, died Monday June 16, 2008 at the Hospital of Central CT after a short illness. Born March 29, 1935 to Alma Doland Wollman and Frank William Wollman in New Britain, he was a lifelong New Britain resident. Gerald is survived by his three daughters; Lisa Spooner and her husband Thomas of Southington, Ava Torello and her husband Mark of Higganum and Roxanne Wollman of New Britain; a sister Marlyn Tanzi of Newington, his two beautiful granddaughters Brittany and Megan Spooner, his former wife and friend, Beatrice Gove of Wethersfield; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Kenneth Wollman and a sister Frances Rydecki. Gerald served his country in the United States Army from 1957-1959 having been stationed in Germany, and then served with the Army Reserve for 4 years. He was employed at Emhart for 13 years and was retired from the State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation, after 28 years of dedicated service. Gerald lived a simple life, taking pleasure in his granddaughters who were the apple of his eye, never missing a single softball game, soccer game or dance recital. During his retirement, he enjoyed taking care of the family pets, and going to the casino with his sister. He enjoyed many lunches with Beatrice at their favorite spots. He loved playing cards with Roxanne and her friends. He was a lifelong Red Sox and New York Giants fan. He saw his dream come true when the Red Sox won the World Series in 2004 and 2007. He enjoyed going to New York City with his niece and nephew. He will be missed by all. Gerald's daughters would like to thank the staff of Unit 5C at New Britain General Hospital, especially Linda, Eileen, Carmen, Natalie and Ashley as well as Dr. Lau who's caring and compassion were truly appreciated by the family. Funeral Services are Thursday 10 AM at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 147 West Main Street, New Britain. Burial with military honors will be in Fairview Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit, c/o Hospital of Central CT, 100 Grand Street, New Britain, CT 06051.
