Sabadino "Sebby" Parker

Sabadino P. "Sebby" Parker—a beloved son and brother, loving husband and stepfather and loyal friend—died unexpectedly but peacefully in his lifelong hometown, New Britain, on Thursday, September 13 at age 36. Born July 31, 1976 in New Britain, he was an outstanding student of the city's public schools and graduated New Britain High School in 1994 with honors, having served as captain of the varsity tennis team and president of the National Honor Society. In 1999, he received a bachelor's degree cum laude in English and a certificate in Peace Studies from the University of Connecticut-Storrs, where he was twice honored as a New England scholar. He later received a master's degree in English from Trinity College. He worked as a proofreader and managing editor at Business & Legal Reports and won a 2003 APEX award for his contributions to its coverage of environmental compliance. He founded Sparker Media--a media services company--reported local news for the Rare Reminder and was an editorial manager at Scene Magazine. An exceptionally imaginative writer who filled composition books with poetry as a teenager, Sebby between 1999 and 2012 published poetry, fiction, as well as reviews of books, comic books, movies and television in a number of publications. He is survived by his wife Allison Murray Parker of New Britain; his stepchildren Gabriel, Robert and Nathaniel Matherne of New Britain; his mother, Cheryl Lee Parker of New Britain; his brother Craig Boyington of Rockville, and his maternal grandmother Lurene Parker of Corinna, ME. He joins his father Generoso Mutone and his brother, Marc Boyington in whatever lies beyond this world. Sebby's life mixed real joy with considerable struggle, and he navigated both with intelligence, humor, a devotion to music and an appreciation for the arts. Through it all, Sebby was consistent in his love for family and friends and his belief that a better world was necessary and possible. A funeral service for Sebby will be held Wednesday 7 PM at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 PM until the time of the service.
